What Is Chiropractic Care?

The aim of Chiropractic care is to remove inteference to the body so that the body is able to heal itself.

Chiropractic is the art, science and philosophy of adjusting (moving) the human body into correct alignment and function, to allow the body to heal itself.

The central nervous system is the part of the body that controls all the functions of the human body. The brain initiates a signal and transmits it via the spinal cord and nerves to every cell, tissue and organ in the body. Without interference to this transmission the body should be able to heal itself when it is damaged or functions incorrectly. Through day to day life we are prone to damaging our body, which causes interruption in this transmission of information from the brain to the body. When this occurs at a joint, we call this a subluxation. The term subluxation, is purely a term Chiropractors use to explain an area of dysfunction in a joint, which causes altered nerve and muscle function. This is the “Principle” of chiropractic care.

The art of Chiropractic is the practical application of removing any of these areas of interference to the nervous system.  Chiropractors have developed many different ways to achieve this. Dr Peter Stapley is trained in a range of different techniques ranging from low force, or non-manipulative (no”cracking”) techniques, to the more traditional manual manipulative techniques used for over 100 years. The principle technique used in the clinic is Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT). SOT is a comprehensive, gentle and innovative technique of Chiropractic. It is so named because of the relationship between the Sacrum (base of the spine) and the Occiput (base of the skull).

The Chiropractor uses hands on techniques to remove areas of body dysfunction, which are often called “adjustments”.

This science of Chiropractic is the research behind what we do and why we do it. Research studies have shown that regular chiropractic adjustments give the body the ability to express a greater state of health and wellbeing naturally, without the use of drugs or surgery.

Subluxation (misalignments) in the body arise from an inability of the body to adapt to stress. Stress will come in the form of:

Physical : gravity, lifting, accidents, repetitive strains, sleep posture

Chemical : diet, medication, drugs

Emotional : psychological stress, relationship, work

Peter Stapley utilizes exercise, stretching programs and teaches patients the benefits of balancing the stresses that lead to problems. This may also include incorporating other therapy and treatment modalities. At Coast Health and Chiropractic the team is dedicated to a holistic health approach where they allow the patient to get the best outcomes.
